'Cause people seem to only post the 20-something Audrey Hepburn

this is genuinely the first photo i've seen of her looking older

I didn't know Audrey Hepburn grew old into a bomb-ass old lady until like, last year. I thought she died young cuz that's the only pictures I've ever seen.

omg

<3

she was also the granddaughter of a baron, the daughter of a nazi sympathizer, spent her teens doing ballet to secretly raise money for the dutch resistance against the nazis, and spent her post-film career as a goodwill ambassador of UNICEF, winning the presidential medal of freedom for her efforts.

and history remembers her as pretty.

WHY I NEED FEMINISM

  • Because this little princess right here is 7 years old, and thinks that she is "too fat" to be pretty.
  • Because Television and Advertising is what has made her think this.
  • Because she had a "girlfriend" at school (like how little kids get married at recess) and she was spit on by her, supposed, friends for it.
  • Because she is bullied constantly for wearing cow "boy" boots to school, even though she looks adorable wearing them.
  • Because this is my little sister and I don't want her to have to go through what I went through.

I think if I had a little sister I'd go insane with outrage constantly.

likesboyswholikeboys:

you can preach about slut-shaming all you want, but you can't deny there's something very wrong with 13 and 14-year old girls going out in skirts and dresses so short they barely cover their asses and shirts with necklines so low they show off cleave they haven't got…

Yes, there is something wrong with it.  No, you are not better than said girls.  And no, it is STILL NOT AN EXCUSE TO SLUT SHAME.  Not even 13 year olds with "dresses so short they barely cover their asses".

There IS a reason why very young girls engage in these types of behaviors, and at the fragile age of 13, it's not because they are conscientiously reclaiming their sexuality and their body.  It's because they've already had their sexual power taken away from them.  At 13, they've already learned that their sole value as young women is their ability to be sexually desirable to men.  It's a form of self-objectification and it is caused by (not a JUSTIFICATION FOR) sexism.

This has everything to do with the same dysfunctional culture about sexuality that allows people to think slut shame is *~totes cool cuz those girls are dumb hoes~*.  People need to STOP revictimizing these young women who are ONLY ACTING ON WHAT THEY'VE LEARNED.  Instead of looking down on them and continuing the cycle of telling them that they're worthless, they need to know that they're WORTHWHILE.  Not just because they are attractive and desirable, but because they're also strong, smart, funny, interesting, kind, talented, and any number of other traits that someone who is learning to see themselves as an object might not immediately recognize.

Shit like this just really pisses me off.

Naturism Made Me A Better Person

Naturism Made Me A Better Person:

naturefreedom:

A few days ago, a co-worker showed me a photo of a nude female on his phone. Soon, all the men in the room were gathered around the phone oohing and aahing, making fools of themselves. Then my co-worker asked for my opinion of the photo, I shrugged my shoulders and said it was "okay." My co-worker probably thought there was something wrong with me or that I was gay. But unknown to him is that I've seen so many naked bodies over the years that nudity is commonplace. Why? Because I'm a naturist.

Naturism has taught me so much. Outsiders see only naked bodies, but it's much more than that. I learned from naturism the difference between nudity and sexuality. Just because someone is nude doesn't mean it's an invitation for sex. Just because a woman is nude or topless doesn't turn her into an object devoid of humanity. We have become so detached from nudity in modern society that its been turned into something sensational or wholly sexual.

Naturism has improved my confidence. I see myself as I really am, not clouded by my preconceptions of myself. I learned to accept myself and not care what other people think. Seeing other nude people, teaches me the reality of humanity, outside the air brushed media. I've seen hundreds of nude people over the years and none of them were 100% perfect. And being "imperfect" is what makes people beautiful.

Naturism has made me more respectful and conscious of nature. I was never an environmentalist, but naturism made me one. Being nude at the beach or in a wooded grove, barefoot feeling the grass and pebbles under my feet, and the breeze surrounding my body has made me aware of nature. When I'm nude, I'm part of nature not at odds with it.

Another positive aspect of naturism is people acceptance. When we are naked, we are all the same and yet different. All humans have the same body parts, the only differences are in the genders. However, after awhile you just see the person. Tall, thin, fat, bald, old, young, rich, or poor people are people. I cannot count the times I've talked to someone and thought to myself what a nice person this is, and that I would never would have found out if they were clothed. If they were clothed, I could have just brushed them off as whatever class they were from or being whatever body type they were. Some of the most "attractive" people I've met would have been thought unattractive by non-naturist standards.

Naturism has made me a better person. Being in nude recreation has given me a perspective that I would have never gotten if I hadn't been a naturist.

Oh my God!

I was just talking about this yesterday. I was saying that one would think with so much porn so easily available people wouldn't still have so much of a hang up about it simple nudity.

But no! Porn makes the hang up about nudity worse because it teaches that sex is the only context for being nude. There's no alternative reason for being nude except for bathing and so if anyone is nude, like nudists or people like me who just like being nude, we must be sexual deviants, sluts, swingers, incest fiends, or whatever because the Internet says that nudity = sex. It may not say it directly, but that's the message.

Just think of how little non-sexual nudity there is in our media. There's almost none. I write it into all my stories and some people read it and freak out because all it takes is nudity for them to make the connection to porn.

Somehow we're in a society that loves porn but hates non-sexual nudity. It's very weird.

Ever notice how kids, left to their own devices, will eventually wind up taking all of their clothes off? Nudity is only shocking because adults have declared it so. Kids get it. Grown-ups don't.

I've never, ever been shocked or disturbed by nudity.

I am far more disturbed that billions upon billions of dollars were stolen, lives ruined, and futures destroyed by a bunch of suit wearing psychopaths and not ONE of them have been brought to justice.

But if my skin were dark enough and I stole a wallet, harming only one person - I'd serve prison time and probably a lot of it.

That's disturbing.

If nakedness is what gets your moralizing panties in a twist, I strongly suggest you reevaluate your priorities.

curvaliciousfashion:

"Attractive and Fat"

Many of you have probably heard of the CEO of Abercrombie and Fitch's controversial and flat out rude comments that the company doesn't sell XL or XXL sizes for women because they want "cool" people to wear their clothes. Well, this blogger wrote an open letter to Jeffries and included these photos of herself and what is considered a "typical" male model body type.

Some quotes from her letter:

"The only thing you've done through your comments (about thin being beautiful and only offering XL and XXL in your stores for men) is reinforce the unoriginal concept that fat women are social failures, valueless, and undesirable."

"This is largely attributed to companies like yours that perpetuate the thought that fat women are not beautiful. This is inaccurate, but if someone were to look through your infamous catalog, they wouldn't believe me."

"P.P.S. You should know your Large t-shirt comfortably fits a size 22. You might want to work on that."

This has to do with fashion, though perhaps not in the way this blog has so far posted. But this sort of confidence is the sort of thing that we want our choices in clothes to reflect. You should be able to wear whatever you want and feel confident - no matter what other people may say or think.

A great response : )

"If owning a gun and knowing how to use it worked, the military would be the safest place for a woman. It's not.

If women covering up their bodies worked, Afghanistan would have a lower rate of sexual assault than Polynesia. It doesn't.

If not drinking alcohol worked, children would not be raped. They are.

If your advice to a woman to avoid rape is to be the most modestly dressed, soberest and first to go home, you may as well add "so the rapist will choose someone else".

If your response to hearing a woman has been raped is "she didn't have to go to that bar/nightclub/party" you are saying that you want bars, nightclubs and parties to have no women in them. Unless you want the women to show up, but wear kaftans and drink orange juice. Good luck selling either of those options to your friends.

Or you could just be honest and say that you don't want less rape, you want (even) less prosecution of rapists."

I find it funny that people now come up to me and say, 'Wow, you are absolutely gorgeous'. I'm like, 'I was beautiful before I lost weight. Egotistically speaking, I thought I was amazing'

This quote. Exactly why I dislike before and afters. Why are you to judge a woman solely on her appearance, and deem her as 'beautiful' after she has lost the weight? Beauty is not defined by a low weight.

So I’m thinking maybe now that a few people have actually decided to follow me I should put something up describing what I do here. I never thought about posting stuff when I started a tumblr, which I did in order to follow a couple of other certain people. But then I started finding things that hit me as being important, things that more people should see. So I stated reposting some of them, thinking: maybe sometime someone will see this who hasn’t already. So that’s mostly what I do. I also post some things that are just fun for me or that represent who I am (like my love of books), but I figure there are tons of others posting cute and funny stuff, so that I would probably be redundant reposting those. Mostly I keep it to things that are important to me. What I am about: God, love, supporting people, justice, freedom, beauty, acceptance especially body acceptance, feminism, books, mental health issues, nonsexual nudity (nothing against the sexual kind, I admit I follow a bit of that but I’m not here to repost porn, not the there can’t be anything sexy on my page, it just won’t be directly sexual or explicit at all, most likely).. I also love movies, great music, theatre… Hmmm I wonder if I’m missing anything. Dorkiness appeals to me.
